Believe me, it’s not
what you want to hear.
Worse than thirty thousand tricycle horns
blasting you from sleep.

All that’s quiet at Lake Santeetlah:
rain kissing dusk green water,
the purple sway of rhododendron,
pine scent, damp clay.

All that’s serene, shattered.

Reminder
of everything lost.
